Bike Wheel - Subjective Color
Brief
Collaboration with Bryan Hollingsworth of Royal H Cycles to design a pattern for a solid disc wheel for a concept bike he was fabricating. Artist Robby Holb and I partnered to create an interactive pattern that has changing visual effects when in rotation at different speeds, so as to distract competitors in the velodrome and inform onlookers how fast the rider was going. Specific visual stroboscopic and Feckner color effects (creating the impression of color triggered by specific black and white frequencies) were intentionally calibrated to occur at unique speeds so the wheel could be used strategically and competitively. It should be noted, all designs, prototypes, and calculations were developed without the aid of digital fabrication tools.
