Art Mural with Teens
Brief
The mural project was led by Maker-in-Resident Josh Sarantitis of Cambridge, MA in collaboration with a cohort of The Possible Zone H.S. students, Zach Fredin and myself. This immersive Deep Dive experience took place over 4 days where students worked to ideate a concept - inspired by biomimicry - and bring a concept to life with different machines and methods in the Fab Lab. Many students had never used digital fabrication tools prior to this experience.
The final piece is illuminated from the back and includes fabrication methods: CNC machining, UV printing, 3D printing, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, hand tools, digital design, direct to garment printing, sewing, and hand assembly. Materials include: metal laminate, plywood, textiles, acrylic, PCB boards, clay, paper, LED lights. Final size is 8'x8'. It is installed in the student lounge at The Possible Zone in Boston, MA.
